Green-Schools Programme at Drogheda Grammar School

The Green-Schools Programme is a fundamental initiative that encourages young people to engage with their environment by giving them opportunities to actively protect it. It begins in the classroom, extends throughout the school, and ultimately inspires positive change in the wider community.

The mission of Green-Schools is simple but vital: to protect planet Earth — our shared home.

At Drogheda Grammar School, we are proud to promote long-term, whole-school action for the environment through the An Taisce Green-Schools Programme.

Weekly meetings take place each Thursday lunchtime from 1:10 pm to 1:35 pm in Room D3. During these sessions, members of the Green-Schools Committee plan activities designed to involve the entire school community in environmental action.

This Year’s Theme: TRAVEL

This year, we are focusing on the Travel theme, which aims to encourage our school community to reduce emissions by choosing greener alternatives to car travel.

As our school currently lacks safe pedestrian and cycling routes, we are promoting the use of public transport — encouraging as many students and staff as possible to travel by bus or train. We are also promoting carpooling as a practical and eco-friendly alternative.

Additionally, we remind parents and guardians to help reduce emissions during drop-off and pick-up times by avoiding idling — please switch off your car engine when stationary.
